Tuning in to the unit

Our first UOI for the year is under the transdisciplinary theme, How we organise ourselves. We aim to achieve the understanding of the big idea, "Food people eat goes through several steps from the farm to our table." This week, we unpacked the transdisciplinary theme, HOW WE ORGANISE OURSELVES. We looked at the meaning of ORGANISED and brainstormed examples of how this is evidenced in our surroundings. Expected answers came up such as 'having rules', 'following a schedule', 'lining up', and others. However, unexpected but interesting answers also came up like 'tying the hair', 'cleaning my toes', which when looked closely on, do reflect being organised in a different level. Hearing their answers show how rich their young minds are.
Then Grade 1s put their thinking skills into action when they worked in teams to identify the sources of food we prepare on our table. They cut and glued pictures of foods and connected them to the sources provided (animals and plants).
After this, we went to the next level where the Grade 1s were asked to identify the possible steps that food undergoes from the source to the final product. Most of the groups chose cow as a source and milk or ice cream as a final product.
Next week, we will move forward by gathering their questions and wonderings and design the next learning engagements based on them.

Grade 1 Term 1 Timetable

A Very Good Start

This week, we tried our best to settle to our new classroom and meet new friends. We discussed class expectations and also did some reading assessments. On Monday,26 August, we will welcome the Pre-schoolers in their Enrollment Party by presenting a role play of the story, The School Cone Tree. It is for this reason that we spent a lot of times doing serious practices yesterday and today. We had a nice and calm start of the year. Looking forward to creating exciting experiences and memories together this school year.

Grade 1 SY 2024-2025

Dear Parents, Welcome to Grade One! As we formally start the new school year, I would like to introduce myself to you. I am Maria Elena Jamandra (Mrs J) and I will be your child’s homeroom teacher for this school year 2024-2025. I am truly excited to begin the school year and journey through the year together with your amazing little ones. Teaching your child is a huge responsibility as this marks a big part of their growing years, not only as a student but as a child as a whole. Knowing this, I as their teacher will try to do my best to ensure that they will have an enriching and motivating learning experience in this upcoming year. However I cannot do this without your help dear parents. Let us work together as partners in guiding our children to achieve their personal best.. As partners, it is necessary to have a harmonious parent-teacher relationship, and this can be achieved if we maintain an open communication. Throughout the year I will communicate things happening at school through our class blog, notes, emails, and conferences. Likewise, feel comfortable to get in touch with me for any questions or concerns that you have. On the 30th of August (Friday), we will have our Parent Night at school. Hope you can join. :) Attached in this email is a copy of the timetable. Thank you and have a relaxing week. Best Regards, Mrs J
