International Book Day and Culture Week Celebration at School

The last two weeks before the spring break was busy with events that come one after another. Last week, we celebrated the International Book Day. The day began with a short presentation of what International Book Day is about as well as its history. We learnt that this celebration is celebrated in the US and other countries on the 23rd of April. However, in the UK, it is celebrated on the first Thursday of March. This is what we followed, thus we celebrated it on the 6th of March, the first Thursday of this month. Then we had some activities inside the classroom such as bookmark making, colouring Book related pictures, word hunt and others. In the afternoon, we had a story reading carousel. Each class went to different classrooms and listened to three stories.Mr. Sam, Ms Faye and Ms J were the story readers. The celebration was concluded with a DEAR: Drop Everything And Read activity. This week, we celebrated Culture Week. The event ran from Tuesday, 11th of March to Thursday, 13th of March. We started with mapping our country of origin on the big map outside the office. Afterwards, we made our country's flags. These flags we brought on the parade on the 13th of March. The next day, we had some fun activities prepared by the Parents. We learned about the history of Paris during the war and how the pigeons became mail deliverers. We also made our own Nala Horses and baskets using paper cups. We made the 'Inukshuk' model using legos and played table hockey. Totally fun and everyone was ecstatic. Final Day was a memorable one too. We all wore our country's attire or national costumes and paraded from school to the picnic area, Rokko Island Park beside the museum. We all shared what we brought for the picnic. We headed back to school and proceeded with our regular day. In the afternoon, we were serenaded and entertained by different artists: a musician from France who played banjo and sang songs, two graceful ladies who danced Indian dances and a group of South Korean primary school students who danced South Korean dance mimicking fishing on a weekend. It was indeed a great way to send us off to a relaxing break.❤️❤️❤️
