How living things are connected
This week, we continued to unpack the big words in the central idea. After exploring what SURVIVAL means, we looked into meaning of the following words: RELATIONSHIPS and COMMUNITY.
In Pre-School last year, they had a unit on community helpers. Using this as their base, they mentioned that the word community means a group of people who help each other. Referring to this, we took the complete meaning of it but expanded on community not just being a group of people but a group of living organisms.
To unpack the word RELATIONSHIPS, the grade 1s looked at different pictures showing different relationships in an ecosystem. They were asked to examine the photos and write their wonderings on the empty space. Aside from that, the Grade 1s worked on making a diagram of pictures to show 'what eats what'.
